Rebuilding Class Rosters in PowerGrade

September 14th, 2007

Teachers, if one or more of your classes “disappears” from your class list in PowerGrade, please try the following:

Open one class that you DO have.
Pull down the Utilities Menu.
Choose Rebuild From Server
Check Class Lists – DO NOT CHECK ANYTHING ELSE
Let it run. It may take a while.
If that doesn’t fix it, please let me know.

Thanks.

Getting Started with a Blog

August 21st, 2007

Blogging is fun, and it’s a quick and easy way to communicate. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll find all sorts of things to put on your blog. Before long, you’ll want to update your blog each and every day.
One of the best sites for an educator who wants to start blogging is Edublogs.

Quick Reference to Buttons on Post Pages

November 13th, 2006

The “b” button makes things bold. You will see html code that says “strong.”
The “i” button will italicize a word or sentence. The html code is “em.”
The link button will allow you to make a link out of any word. You will see the normal html code for links.
The b-quote button will put things in block-quotes, an indented block of text.
The “del” button will strike through the text.
“Ins” underlines.
“Ul” indents.
“Ol” Outline indent.
“Li” will give you a bulleted list.
“Code” very small print.
“More” puts a private note in html. This is a note that will only be visible to you when you are editing.
Embed swf – you link to a flash movie or flash graphics.
For the Google video, You Tube video and iFilm – Insert the video ID number in the pop up box to link to it.
Embed dcr button, will ask for the full URL to the Director movie file…whatever that is!

My thanks to my fellow CTT, Pam Haney for her input. Two heads are always better than one!

What are the Advantages of Blogging?

November 13th, 2006

If you start using a blog to get information to an entire faculty, you may be faced with some questions with regard to why you are using a blog instead of just emailing the information. Here are a couple of things to bear in mind.

First of all, information in a blog is saved in one, handy location that you can always access. Have you ever had to search for an old email that you just KNOW you saved somewhere, but then you were not able to find it? Blog entires are always there.

Second, comments on a blog are quite often helpful to everyone. A good suggestion sent by email means sending out yet another email to inform everyone of the good suggestion.

Third, the blog is available on any computer with internet access. No need to set up an email client to retrieve the information.

Finally, blogging is easy and fun and far more interactive. Let’s face it, many of our students are probably already old hands at blogging. It’s time we use this tool ourselves and gain a good understanding of how blogs function. Apparently, they’re here to stay!
